Fine dining…at home!

I love food. Especially steak, however, it can be super expensive to eat daily. I treat myself every couple of weeks to a filet (usually when I can find a deal at Costco). Of course, I have to be extremely careful in my seasoning selection as MSG seems to be in EVERYTHING! For this dinner, I made the sides super simple. I used fresh brussel sprouts and cut off the ends, split them into 1/2 or 1/4, depending on how big the sprout was, tossed them in a very small amount of extra virgin olive oil and placed them on half of a small baking pan. The baby carrots I also tossed in a very small amount of extra virgin olive oil and placed them on the other half of the baking pan. Salt and pepper on top of both veggies and in the oven they went at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. While the veggies started baking, I set out my steak to get it closer to room temp. I sprinkled the steak with salt, black pepper, red pepper, garlic, and onion while I waited. After the 25 minutes, I tossed the veggies on their separate sides and added some cut up bacon ends to the brussel sprouts side. Back in the oven for another 15 minutes. I like my steak medium-rare to medium. I didn’t feel like getting the charcoal grill going to I used a small frying pan and once the pan was up to medium heat, added unsalted butter and began to sear the steak. When I get into my cooking mood, nothing can stop me. The steak only takes about 4.5-5 min each side so as soon as that was completed, I put a lid on the frying pan, took it off the heat, and let the steak rest. Now for the finishing touches on the veggies – the brussel sprouts and bacon ends were placed in a bowl, tossed with Truffle oil, placed on my plate, and sprinkled with shredded Parmesan Cheese. The baby carrots were good as gold so they were also added to my plate. Then the steak…….mouth watering moment. From start to finish, less than an hour and I have a beautiful dish with so much flavor, gluten free, and I don’t have to worry about getting any cross contamination from a restaurant. Winning!
