Hibiscus plants make me happy. It’s the sign that warmer weather is here and time to get outdoors and enjoy the pool. I have halfway successfully been able to keep 2 of my hibiscus plants alive for the last 5 years. Now every fall, before the temps drop consistently below 50, I have to drag these plants inside along with all of my potted tropical plants and do my best to keep them alive during the cold months. During the summer, watering every day to keep them blooming all season can seem like a lot but the joy they bring me when the flowers bloom is worth the hassle. There are quite a few varieties out there. Some are more bush like while others look more like trees. The tropical, less cold hardy varieties have vibrant colors that go perfectly around a pool or water feature. The flowers and plants are toxic to animals, which I have been fortunate that my dogs do not mess with my plants. Happy summer!
